Should I upgrade?

Is it worth it to upgrade from DDR2 800 vs DDR2 1066?

Currently have 4 GB (2x2GB) DDR2 800 OCZ Reaper and want to upgrade to OCZ Reaper (2x2GB) DDR2 1066

Re: Should I upgrade from DDR2 800 to DDR2 1066?

I think is ok if DDR800 is sold or in another motherboard or for backup. Other than that, I think 1066 or higher is ok when overclocking higher, however, I do not like overclocking memory so I do not overclock the memory past rated speed because possible corruption that I do not want. Performance improvement with DDR1066 is small over DDR800. As in, not even noticeable. I can think of better ways to make the computer faster. SSD, faster hard drive.

if ya gotta ask,

kidding aside, i just put together a rig and used 2x2/800@cas4 but then again i was matching the ram heatsink to the gigabyte heatsinks.

think back when i had you run superpi with your x2. 800/cas 4 vs 1066/cas 5 run the same times clock for clock.

somebody may be able to give examples where you might want the extra bandwidth.

lol!

I knew you were gonna jump on this one. Just going back to when you recommended me Phenom 940, I was just wondering why you never recommended an core i7 920 processor? Or EVEN a socket AM3 with a Phenom 955 processor...isn't a 955 significantly better and not much different price wise? And DDR3 is ofcourse much better right?

the i7 won't fit your board.

if i remember and not having a senior moment or two, i said a 550 would be as good as the x4, whichever one you were looking at, at the time.

gotta go for a bit.

later

Re: Should I upgrade?

Another question....

My board also supports AM3 processors....I have a Phenom ii 940 BE right now...Will Phenom ii 955 BE be a decent and a significant upgrade?
