Question GA-965P-DQ6 rev 1.0 and e8400 wolfdale ?

I have a rev 1.0 GA-965-DQ6 and am looking at upgrade to e8400 wolfdale. gigabyte's website says its a supported CPU, but I'm confused by the 1333 FSB on the CPU and the fact that this Rev supports 1066/800/533 MHz FSB.

1. Will it run?
2. Is this e8400 just going to leave some processing power behind since the mbo isn't rated for 1333 FSB?

Anyone running it now on a rev 1.0?

Here, Gigabyte states that with the BIOS F12j and by Overclocking, you can attain the stock CPU freq.
Quote:
IntelCore™ 2 Duo
E8400
3GHz
6MB
Wolfdale
45nm
C0
65W
1333
F12j
(by Overclocking)
.

by simply overclocking to an FSB of 1333 MHz (see table)

The fact that even a QX9770 can be run is clearly labeled with BIOS N/A
Quote:
IntelCore™ 2 Extreme
QX9770
3.2GHz
12 MB
Yorkfield
45nm
C0
135W
1600
N/A
.
which means that that one can only be run at 1333, being a 20% difference (calculated from the 1333 reference.

I would, first, update the BIOS to F12j, the shut down, exchange the CPU's and start up, then OC the FSB to 1333 and 'Bob's your uncle' !

EDIT: you might have problems overclocking because of a same degree of overclock on your memory.
You might need some good quality >PC6400, because my PC6400 does go 900 MHz, but that 's not enough to go from 1066 to 1333 !

1333/1066 = 1.250 and 900/800 = 1.125 ...

Sorry to jump in here, I have the same motherboard and was wondering the same thing. Just to make sure I am reading this right, you can use the wolfdale and Yorkfield CPU's with this motherboard even if it is a revision 1?

Re: GA-965P-DQ6 rev 1.0 and e8400 wolfdale ?

Only the Rev. 3.3 board supports the E8400, and even then it isn't OFFICIALLY supported. The Rev 1.0 and 2.0 boards do not. I ran into the same problem with my GA-965P-DS3. While the board is capable of running at the correct fsb the bios more than likely will NOT recognize the cpu and won't boot at all, or will be unstable if it does.

And 1333 = 333 fsb and 666 memory with the 2.0 divider or 800 with the 2.40 divider so PC2-6400 will have no problems running at that speed. I've run my 965P-DS3 at 333 to 400fsb (and 800 memory) with PC2-6400 for years without a problem.
